A highly decorative, thrown and altered flower basket by Hannah McAndrew. Made using red earthenware. These flower baskets come with a ceramic flower frog (7cm x 10cm), as pictured, to help hold your blooms for display.
Hannah’s work is decorated using coloured slips and rich honey glazes. Inspired by nature and historic slipware traditions.

Continuing within a long and rich lineage of British slipware, Hannah McAndrew creates highly decorative pieces of pottery which have a purpose. Influenced by the eighteenth century potters of Staffordshire and Devon yet translated with a contemporary eye, Hannah has become increasingly known for the deftness of her slip trail work.
“I enjoy the challenge of creating a piece that will not simply perform its task well, but will be attractive to the eye and instil a sense of comfort and warmth to its surroundings. My pots are thrown in red earthenware clay and decorated using coloured slips. The decoration is applied to the surface of the pot by use of a slip trailer, while the surface is still glistening wet. Sometimes I allow the slipped surface to dry a little, so that I can inscribe motifs with sgrafitto lines. These slips are subsequently enhanced by the addition of a layer of rich honey glaze.” Hannah McAndrew
Hannah McAndrew is based in Galloway, Scotland where she shares a studio with husband and fellow potter, Doug Fitch.

Hannah McAndrew’s tableware pieces; plates, mugs and baking dishes are dishwasher safe, but in order to keep your piece in prime condition handwashing is always recommended.
Hannah’s baking dishes are suitable for oven use. – perfect for fruit crumbles and savoury pies. They are not, however, suitable for stove top use or for use in the microwave due to the high iron content in the clay.
Please note that forcing pottery from a hot temperature into cold, or taking from freezer to hot oven, can cause thermal shock which can lead to your pottery cracking, so is best avoided.
